6th NEAC

The 6th National Elder Abuse Conference was held in Brisbane on the 22-23rd of July and brought together industry professionals from all around Australia to ‘Rock the Boat’ and improve the ways in which we work to end the abuse of seniors.

Seniors Rights Service CEO Russell Westacott attended with our social worker Kate Kennedy, solicitor Jennifer Smythe and regional advocates. The aged care advocates Tammy Cabban, Shanel Tighe and Gerard Dunlop were also joined by community members Peter English from Dubbo Meals on Wheels and Iris Ritt, manager at St Carthage’s Community Care. This was all made possible by Family and Community Services and allowed us to create closer bonds with members of our regional communities, as well as open up the conversation and understand new perspectives on how to tackle this nationwide epidemic.

SRS had a booth at the two-day long event and was a hub for guests to learn and converse with us about ways to end aged care abuse. Our booth provided videos and posters of information as well as having industry professionals available at all times.

This annual event hosted a plethora of passionate professionals, advocates, policymakers, practitioners and community members and allowed for an inclusive conversation to be had. SRS is proud to participate and be a point of contact. We are passionate about discussing and learning ways we can continue to improve to help seniors in our communities.
