Seniors Rights Service is proud to partner with ACON and Uniting to sponsor Afternoon Delight. These movie matinees and afternoon teas have been held all around New South Wales and provide an opportunity for LGBTQ seniors and their friends to connect to their community and gain useful information tailored to them. A member of SRS attends each event and gives voice to what we do as an organisation and to spread awareness of the support networks available. SRS CEO, Russell Westacott expressed that ‘’We are proud to be involved [and] Afternoon Delight is the perfect opportunity for senior members to connect, relax and share stories’’.
ACON, Australia’s leading LGBTQ health organisation has been running these events for 11 years. Over time the initiative has expanded to rural areas of NSW and is now bigger than ever. This year Afternoon Delight will be held in Sydney, Newcastle, Sawtell, Wagga Wagga, Lismore and Katoomba. Jane Schneider our Communications and Media Manager attended the Sydney event and said that ‘’The program of films was really compelling and the afternoon tea was great fun. We got to connect with a lot of people in the community and it was truly a great event’’.
