Launch of the Commonwealth’s National Plan to address elder abuse in Australia
Seniors Rights Service welcomes the launch of the Commonwealth’s National Plan to address elder abuse in Australia. The Plan has come about after recommendations from the Australian Law Reform Commission‘s 2017 report titled Elder Abuse: A National Legal Response. Also the community sector across Australia has been calling for a strategic framework to ensure all governments – both state and federal – are working together to address elder abuse. Seniors Rights Service hosted the 5th National Elder Abuse Conference in 2018 where the Attorney-General Hon Christian Porter MP committed funding to the National Plan. Seniors Rights Service now looks forward to all stakeholders implementing the Plan and regular review of this implementation by the Implementation Executive Group as outlined in the document. It is only by this regular review we will understand the effectiveness of the National Plan.
