We are excited to announce that our ‘Money Matters’ statewide radio and social media campaign addressing financial abuse of older people has won the NSW Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing Media Award. The Awards program aims to improve public perception and encourage a greater quality of reporting and portrayal of older people in the future.
Our three-month radio campaign, Money Matters: Stop Financial Abuse, was produced in four community languages (Hindi, Arabic, Mandarin and Cantonese) as well as English. A resource was also produced for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander older people.
With short, dramatic scenarios the campaign covered issues including misuse of credit cards by a family member or trusted person, pressure on older people by their children to sell their home or other assets and older people being pressured to support adult children. The campaign was made possible by a generous grant from the Ecstra Foundation which is committed to improving the financial wellbeing of all Australians.
