This year Seniors Rights Service celebrates forty years dedicated to protecting and advancing the rights of older people. This milestone is traditionally symbolised by the vibrant, deep red ruby gemstone, representing devotion and endurance over four decades.
To celebrate this occasion our Ruby Event brought together current and previous employees, community partners and stakeholders in Sydney.
Raymond Weatherall of the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council opened the proceedings with an insightful Welcome to Country. A Gomeroi man from Northwest New South Wales, Raymond’s address revealed his passion for First Nations culture and pride to be a part of the world’s oldest living civilisation.
Our MC, Charisma Belle, hosted the evening, featuring an address by The Hon. Jodie Elizabeth Harrison, MP and our CEO, Shannon Wright. 2025 NSW Senior Australian of the Year, Dr Karl Kruszelnicki presented a fascinating keynote exploring ageing in a manner only Dr Karl can.
Later in the evening we presented our 40th anniversary video which showcases interviews with our management team, employees on the ground and stakeholders for insights into their work and dedication to our vision of a society that respects and upholds the rights of older people.
Another highlight was a performance of Elton John’s anthem of resilience and survival, ‘I’m Still Standing’ by our multi talented MC, Charisma Belle.
