The Committee on Ageing and Disability is inquiring into supported decision making for adults with disability and older people in NSW.
The inquiry will examine the role and functions of the Ageing and Disability Commission in relation to supported decision making and consider options for enhancing the process of supported decision-making.
It will consider the experiences of people seeking to access support to make decisions, including Aboriginal people and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
It will also consider measures to ensure that substitute decision-making is an alternative approach that is used only in appropriate and limited circumstances.
There are two ways you can speak up and share your experience and views:
Make an individual submission directly to NSW Parliament here before 13 March 2026.

What is supported decision making?
Everyone has the right to make decisions about their life, the care and services they receive and the risks they are willing to take including people living with dementia or other cognitive conditions. Some people may want or need support in making certain types of decisions. This is called supported decision making.
A person whose capacity to make decisions is limited should be supported to make their own choices wherever possible.
