Surry Hills Connect

Fortnightly, at Northcott Towers, Seniors Rights Service provides a free legal advice for housing estate residents to assist prevent and respond to the abuse of seniors. Our team has been part of the initiative run by FACS NSW since October of 2018. This program has allowed us to connect and assist with senior residents, many from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Each session is attended by a solicitor and social worker to provide holistic support service for seniors.

In order to improve our engagement with seniors from diverse background, we have a mandarin speaking solicitor and also provide interpreters when necessary. SRS is working hard to develop avenues to allow all Australian seniors to access support services.

Through this collaborative work with the housing centres Project Support Centre Team, SRS has been able to assist seniors at risk and increasingly have warm referrals from the staff at the housing estate. The Surry Hills Community Connection Project aims to meet the needs of some of our most vulnerable Australians and SRS is proud to offer free and confidential legal advice and support through our social worker. Many of the seniors we support have repeat appointments and allows for them to attain personal care and support.

Seniors Rights Service is proud to work alongside FACS, Legal Aid, Police, Mission Australia, the Salvation Army, Kirketon Rd Centre, Disability Law, Anglicare and NUAA to support our local community.
