Water for Walgett
Our Dubbo advocate, Shanel Tighe, took a carload of water to Walgett, where the Namoi River was dry. The community is provided with drinking water sourced from the Great Artesian Basin which has a high sodium content – making it a potential health risk. This visit enabled Seniors Rights Service to engage with the Dharriwaa Elders Group, giving the Elders a chance to discuss issues of concern within the community and, in particular, issues affecting them as Elders, such as access to aged care services. Shanel was appreciative of the warm welcome she received and is looking forward to assisting Walgett Elders and strengthening relationships with communities like this across the state.
