Whether within communities right across NSW, or making contributions at a national level, Seniors Rights Service is committed to ending elder abuse.
Earlier this year, a team of Aged Care Advocates and Lawyers from Seniors Rights Service were proud to attend the Turn Up The Volume conference in Adelaide, convened by Elder Abuse Action Australia (EAAA). Yet with the conference over, what is Seniors Rights Service doing right now to advance the conversation on this important topic?
Every day our Aged Care Advocates support the rights of older people to be free from elder abuse. We do this by informing them of their rights and actively supporting older people to stand up for those rights. We also inform community members and staff responsible for the care of older people, on the warning signs of elder abuse and what to do if they suspect elder abuse is taking place. We also share our perspective and understanding of elder abuse with others in our sector so that, as a society, we can do a better job at protecting the dignity older people deserve.
It is in this vein that Seniors Rights Service Solicitor and 2022 First Nations Lawyer of the Year, Brian Attard, is today attending an EAAA meeting in his capacity as a Board member.
“What Seniors Rights Service does to combat the abuse of older people is a real team effort,” states Brian.
“It’s a privilege to be able to take the learnings we gain from helping clients to a forum like EAAA. It’s also a privilege to be able to link in with and be a voice for all communities on issues that concern them.
“The best thing is that I will also be able to bring back other learnings from the EAAA meeting, to help Seniors Rights Service improve how we support older people.
“My success is our success and our success means more older people safe from elder abuse,” concludes Brian.
