Nalika from our legal team had the pleasure of attending the Blacktown Seniors Festival along with over 450 seniors from various community groups in the region.
Entertainment was provided by comedian Sam McCool, a finalist on Australia’s Got Talent and musical group FABBA brought glitz and glamour with a live performance.
Christine Nield and Peter Overton were named joint recipients of Blacktown City’s 2024 Senior Citizen of the Year, in recognition of their dedication to the local community through volunteer work.
Christine is a long-time Blacktown resident who actively supports her community through various initiatives like the Quakers Hill Neighbourhood Centre’s donation gathering, Blacktown Council’s knit bomb project against domestic violence, and Boomerang Bags at Riverstone, which repurposes fabric to create environmentally friendly items.
Peter’s decorated house in Quakers Hill has created joy at Christmas time for thirty years. Meticulous handmade decorations have been crafted by Peter every year over months of planning and setup, with December dedicated to greeting thousands of visitors each night, organising BBQs, and even visits from Santa on a fire truck.
